Rocky is a 4 year old boy who needs a confident, experienced owner.
Rocky is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
Rocky is not good with cats and we will not rehome him with children of any age.
Rocky is a large , slender boy, who originally came into our care after he snatched some food from a child visiting the home. We did rehome Rocky to a young couple - however they were not strong or confident enough for a German Shepherd, and Rocky felt he had to become the protector of the home.
Rocky is a very friendly, happy boy - who greets all like long lost friends- HOWEVER if anybody shows nervousness, or his owner is not confident- he will bark and lunge. For this reason we are looking for someone confident in handling shepherds.
Rocky is housetrained, travels well and ok to be left short periods.
He has not been socialised at all, so has no idea how to behave around other dogs. He is not aggressive with dogs just full on, bouncy and over the top, which may well get him into situations he will struggle to handle. With structured training classes and socialising with steady dogs, he will soon learn. He is a very biddable dog, and will do anything for food. He does snatch at food/ treats- so new owner must be aware. He is improving daily with this.
Rocky is very strong- so needs a fit, strong handler! He does pull on the lead at first but settles eventually. Recall not tested.
Rocky has so much potential, and so much love to give. He has been very misunderstood in the past, and we need a new owner to love him for the goofy daft lump he is!
Currently in kennels in Preston, Lancashire.
ROCKY UPDATE NOV 2023.
Rocky has been back in kennels a while now and had a few meet and greets with potential new owners. Sadly they haven't gone well and he has shown nervous aggression.
Rocky cannot live with other dogs, but could learn to mix with them socially, with time and training.
Rocky is very sensitive and picks up on peoples energy quickly. He will ignore people on walks unless they come into his personal space then he is reactive.
He will need to meet potential new owners several times on walks before taking any next steps.
He is such a loving dog once he trusts you but as humans have failed him in the past, this trust will need to be earned.
In the right experienced home with no children, other pets & careful management of any visitors to the home- he will flourish.
Rocky so deserves that chance!
